PAIRS Program - (Premier All-Inclusive Risk Share Program)
IVF Treatment Risk Share- Background
IVF can be a very costly treatment for patients who do not have insurance coverage. Often couples must decide whether to proceed with IVF and risk the inability to proceed with adoption if they do not become pregnant.
PAIRS Program assists patients without adequate IVF insurance. It limits the financial risk of pursuing IVF treatment as a “warranty” against not getting pregnant. We assume risk (a refundable fee) and you “limit your risk (a non refundable fee)” in the absence of pregnancy. Hence, this type of program is often known as “risk sharing”.
The PAIRS Program assumes the risk that our rates will be stable within age groups. If you are not successful (meaning pregnant for 12 weeks after retrieval), a significant portion of your money is refunded. Pregnancy rates from IVF are primarily age related. Therefore, the amount refunded is related to the “risks” of not becoming pregnant. As you age, you assume a greater “risk” of treatment failure, and less money is refunded. Younger patients, with a higher pregnancy rate and less risk of treatment failure receive a higher refund if they are not pregnant after IVF. The last category of patients, who also assume a “greater risk” of treatment failure, are those with severe endometriosis, only one ovary, or those that are using testicular tissue. Remember, a refund is not a “guarantee” of pregnancy. If you get pregnant on your first attempt, the total fee you pay into this type of program will be higher than a single traditional “fee for service” cycle.
